POLITICAL SOLUTIONS WITHOUT POLITICAL BIAS

My Political Principles

I'm Radell Lewis, host of Purple Political Breakdown. This page is the foundation under everything I make: what I believe, why, and how I judge any policy put in front of me.

Who I am politically

I'm a progressive realist: progressive about where we should end up, realistic about how we get there. I believe the government has a real job to do, and I believe no government can guarantee anyone's outcome.

Purple Political Breakdown is nonpartisan, not neutral. I have a defined point of view. It just doesn't fit neatly into either party, and I'd rather earn your agreement with reasons than with a team jersey.

The foundation

The purpose of politics is to help people flourish: to give every person a real shot at becoming the best version of themselves. Every position I hold comes back to that.

I believe in three human rights, the same three this country was founded on.

  • Life. The right to exist and be protected from harm.
  • Liberty. Freedom to think, speak, worship, move and associate without arbitrary interference from the government or anyone else.
  • The pursuit of happiness. Not a promise that you'll be happy, but a promise that nothing unjust, especially nothing tied to your race, sex or background, will block your path to growing.

Food, shelter, healthcare and education matter enormously, but I don't call them rights. They're the systems that make the three real rights possible, and the government's job is to keep those systems reliably within reach for everyone.

American Principles I Believe In

Fairness means a floor, then a fair shot. Everyone gets their basic rights guaranteed. Above that floor, the goal is equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. Big success at the top is fine as long as there's a real, reachable pathway for people at the bottom to climb.

Government should be purposeful, not big or small. Strong wherever it's needed to protect the floor, restrained everywhere else. Every rule should stop a real harm, not just add paperwork, and we should always ask who benefits from a rule staying on the books.

Build people up, then let them choose. The government's job is to build your capacity to succeed, not to decide what success looks like for you. People have to be free to fail or flourish on their own terms.

Nobody is above the law. Not politicians, not billionaires, not anyone. Success earned honestly deserves respect. Power abused deserves accountability.

Democracy works best at the right scale. Representatives who use real judgment at the national level, and more direct citizen voice locally, where people can see the results. Constitutional limits exist so no majority can vote away anyone's basic rights.

Trust has to be earned back. Social media broke our automatic trust in institutions. Government now has to prove its legitimacy in the open, through transparency, real civic education and local reporting people can rely on.

Proud of the country, not blind to it. I believe in patriotism built on shared ideals, not ethnicity. Anyone can become American by embracing those ideals, and loving your country includes being honest about its failures. Abroad, we lead by example, and we act together with other nations when there's proof of slavery, torture or genocide.

Keep the traditions that work. Family, self-reliance, community, and respect for the people who serve. These carry real value, and I'd rather honor them than mock them, while protecting every person's freedom to live differently.

Principles over popularity. A decision made on sound principle isn't unjust just because it's unpopular, and a bad one isn't justified because people like it. How people feel about an outcome and whether it was just are two different questions.
